A Life Well Lived

Edward J. Kuhn, 65, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, with his beloved wife Deborah at his side. Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Ed was a proud graduate of Marist High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree from DeVry University Keller Graduate School of Management.

Ed was the owner of Wellness Medical Protection Group for over 20 years — an independent agency he built from the ground up starting in 2001, founded on the simple belief that every person deserves honest guidance and real protection.

In his free time, Ed loved fishing, biking, and the outdoors of Northern Michigan, where he and Deborah owned a home. He could fix anything. He always put a smile on everyone’s face. And he always showed up — in business and in life — with integrity and heart.

He is survived by his wife Deborah McCabe, his step-daughter Maura, and his sister Sally (Bill Wilton). Preceded in death by his dear parents Edward and Marie.

He Started It All

Ed Kuhn was more than a businessman — he was the heartbeat behind everything we have built. In 2001, he opened an independent insurance agency with a handshake and a promise: that every client would feel genuinely protected, genuinely heard. That promise never wavered. Not once. Not in 25 years.

When WMPG — Wellness Medical Protection Group — was born in 2012, it was Ed’s vision, work ethic, and character that shaped its culture from day one. He didn’t just build a company. He built a family. Every value we hold dear, every relationship we nurture, every late night we pushed through because it was the right thing to do — Ed was in all of it.

His presence filled every room he walked into. His absence is felt in every one we walk into now. But his legacy? That lives in every policy we write, every client we protect, and every promise we keep. We are who we are today — and who we will be in the future — because of Ed.

How He Built It All

2001

Ed founded his independent insurance agency — built on integrity, personal service, and the conviction that every client deserves to feel truly protected. He started with a handshake and a promise that never wavered.

2014

WMPG — Wellness Medical Protection Group — was born. Ed was one of its founding pillars, bringing over a decade of expertise, a loyal client base, and his remarkable ability to connect with people on a human level.

20+ Years

Ed led Wellness Medical Protection Group with integrity for over two decades. His clients didn’t stay because of the products. They stayed because of him. His relationships ran deep — and they were built to last.

Always

Ed’s legacy lives on in the team he shaped, the clients he served, and the culture he planted. We carry the torch he lit — not as an obligation, but as a privilege.

He was a respected leader, mentor, and dear friend. He led with integrity. We are forever grateful — and honored to carry forward the legacy he built.

Voices of Those He Touched

Ed’s reach extended far beyond business. He was a mentor at the dinner table, a friend at Kassuba Lake, a man of curiosity in Tokyo, and a neighbor who always made sure no one felt alone. Here, in the words of those who loved him, is who Ed truly was.

You helped us stand ready for the worst but prepared us the best. You have been by our side for almost two decades and we will certainly miss you.

Client, nearly 20 years

Ed always had a smile on his face and kindness in his voice. His leadership and time on the board was greatly appreciated. We will miss our Hidden Village neighbor in Gaylord.

The Pillars of His Legacy

🤝

Integrity First

Ed built every relationship on honesty. He never sold what you didn’t need — only what would truly protect you. In over 20 years, that never changed.

❤️

People Over Policies

Behind every policy was a human being. Ed never forgot that. He led with empathy before expertise — and his clients felt it every single time.

The Legacy Continues

Everything we do — every client we protect, every promise we keep — carries his name and his spirit forward. We carry on because it is what he would want.

Memorial donations in Ed’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society. His family asks that in lieu of flowers, you honor him by showing kindness to someone today — which is exactly what he did, every day.
